A Fall Review

September is here and it is a good time to refocus on your finances and any other tasks still on your to-do list.

  1. Review Your Health Benefits – Open Enrollment for most companies happen in September and October. Take a look at your current plan and determine whether it has met your needs and is still a good plan for you. Are there any life events that you are planning that could impact the insurance package you have in place?
  2. Review Health Appointments – Have you taken care of all your health appointments for the year? In many cases hospitalization plans allow for an annual physical, blood work, an eye appointment – which often includes money towards new eyeglasses, dentist check-ups and as you age, often other tests are included once a year in your plan. Make sure you are not missing out on any reimbursements that you are entitled to.
  3. Review Your Tax Payments – If you are self-employed or earn any freelance income on the side – make sure your estimated taxes are paid. If you are employed and any of your circumstances have changed this year, talk to your HR person to be sure the right amount of taxes is being withheld, so you are not surprised at tax time.
  4. Review Your Credit Card Benefits – Many credit cards offer free perks such as car rentals, travel insurance and cash back incentives. If you have a card that has dropped benefits, consider applying for a new card that fits your needs.
  5. Review Your IRA Contributions – Are you on target to contribute the maximum you can to a Traditional, Roth or company plan IRA? If not, adjust your budget to include being able to save more into the plan you have in place. Putting money into a retirement account on a regular basis allows you to build for those future retirement years.

With only a few months left of the year and the busy holiday time comping up.. take some time to review any outstanding items you still need to take care of this year.

Enjoy the fall season and if I can be of any help please feel free to reach out. 814-931-1043
