Here we are in December and close to the end of another year. It is a good time to take a look back at the Financial and Personal Goals you might have made for the year. Usually when you do this there will be some you have achieved and some that are a work in progress. That is OK. Through your various stages of life, goals change as you age and evolve – through your working years, during retirement and your years in retirement.
I always tell people in order for a goal to succeed the first step is to make the goal and the 2nd step is to monitor your progress. Whether you are a person who likes to write things down (like me) or someone who would rather put it on a tablet or computer – the main step to achieve a goal is to not forget about it. It is easy to say here are my goals or new year’s resolutions but unless you check on your progress frequently you are more than likely not going to achieve them.
Another tip is to always celebrate a milestone. You always want to recognize something you have achieved. I am sure you remember when someone said thank you for your contributions or job well done. It made you feel good about yourself and through life you want to always remember to recognize your achievements.
Always have personal goals! In your working years it is easy to be on the go – with work, activities you and your kids are involved in, and hobbies. As you age though, it is very important to have a plan of things you want to do. In talking with clients and friends… the one comment I get is “I don’t know what to do with my time once I retire.” A client once told me I am not retiring from something but to something. That might be travel, volunteer work, being more active outdoors or a popular one is watching grandchildren play sports and participate in activities. The important part of life’s journey is always having a plan to enjoy it.
I hope my tidbits and commonsense information I shared has been helpful. I look forward to finding some new topics and sharing more financial tips in 2026. You can always contact me through Coach4Retirees or call 814-931-1043.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
