The 2025 Affordable Care Act (ACA) Open Enrollment period for most states is from November 1st to December 15th, for coverage starting on January 1st, 2026. The big change this year is that the premium tax credits that have made coverage more affordable are scheduled to expire at the end of 2025.
This means premiums are expected to increase significantly. The representatives in the government are still trying to come together to address this issue, however premium notices are going out to those enrolled in the ACA and people are struggling to get information to make a decision on health care for 2026.
If you cannot afford the plan, you are in, consider a less generous plan with a lower premium but a higher deductible. In most cases it makes sense to have at least some type of insurance rather than go without being insured.
Congress might still act on this by extending the tax credits or a new plan to help those in need.
This year more than ever, it is important to talk to representatives in your community or by phone to see what plan and premium would be good for your budget. You can also get information on their website, healthcare.gov or pennie.com in Pennsylvania.
